leprosy self-care kit
When someone is cured of the bacterial infection that causes leprosy, the nerve damage they have suffered may not be reversed. This means they can easily injure themselves, causing the deformed feet and lost fingers associated with the disease. INF gives training and basic equipment that helps people stop the damage. A leprosy self-care kit contains a small ‘soak bowl’, a mirror, protective glasses and gloves. With training it can be valuable equipment in a daily routine to care for insensitive feet and hands or damaged eyes. In the battle against deformity, soaking feet, careful inspection for injury and protective glasses are the first lines of defence.
